Yellow Jacket wasps can fly out earlier than our honey bees and have that cold weather advantage.

When you really want to know what’s going on with your beehives, go out before sunrise and observe the landing boards.
With temperatures in the 30’s today, wasps were flying well before the honey bees were and I decided to use a BugZooka to collect them. If you wish to watch my Bugzooka review video, here is the link: https://youtu.be/0epNjbGXhEA
I collected the wasps with the bugzooka and then chilled them before transferring them into the ReCap Bug Jar: https://goo.gl/qSFAS4

If you need to kill the wasps, you can do it non-chemically by putting the container in the freezer for 20 minutes. They will not be physically damaged if you need to preserve them for study or presentation.
If you want to put them in a clear petri-dish for observation or photography, these are the dishes I use: https://goo.gl/S7tijZ
