Living the ‘risk environment’: Case studies in qualitative research on HIV and drugs

Dr. Tim Rhodes, a researcher from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London, spoke on Living the ‘risk environment’: Case studies in qualitative research on HIV and drugs in Halifax. The talk reflected on the role of social and structural interventions in creating the environmental change necessary to reduce harms.

The lived experience of risk in relation to HIV and drug use is shaped by the social and political environments. This talk focuses on case studies undertaken in the UK and Serbia, which between them focus on sexual safety, access to HIV treatment, and parenting in a context of dependent drug use. The case studies highlight the role of social and structural interventions in creating the environmental change necessary to reduce harms.
