Uganda’s High Court rules that poll was legal
Lawyers representing Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni have been celebrating their victory. On Thursday, the high court ruled that Uganda’s recent elections were legal. The court also cleared President Museveni over controversial comments he made during his campaign, considered by some as voter intimidation. Opposition leaders have been trying to overturn the February election results that gave Museveni another term in office. Several international and local observers also criticised the vote. While the country’s Chief Justice acknowledged there were irregularities in the elections, he said that did not affect the final result. Museveni’s been in power for decades.
