YORK, Pa. — York City Police are cracking down on synthetic marijuana.
It’s illegal in Pennsylvania, but distributors get around that by changing its formula. In a recent two week span, nine people in York County were hospitalized after ingesting it. One of those cases is now being investigated by the coroner.
Police will use a two-prong approach to attack the problem. First, beginning Thursday, officers visited at least 27 stores in the city, offering them amnesty to turn over any product they may have.
The next step is enforcement. So far, no stores have turned over any of the drug.
Emergency responders tell CBS 21, patients suffer from high temperatures, agitation, aggression, and volatile behaviors.
The synthetic drug can be especially dangerous because its high can be different each time, even if it is packaged the same way.
